General Philosophy

The Swoosh basketball program a 501(c)(3) organization emphasizes the player first and foremost. We are a one team program and therefore are able to devote much more attention to the individual player. Playing time, Education Assistance, All-star Basketball Camps, Uniforms and Gear, Accommodations; each of these are tailored to the individual player. Other larger programs can not offer this. Fairness, Integrity, Teamwork and Responsibility. The importance of these concepts are taught and followed. Basketball is a team sport much like most occupations in the business world. Our players will become much more prepared for the off-court opportunities life presents. In terms of education, the Houston Swoosh was one of the few teams (10 out of 120), that completed the Complete Athlete Seminar held at the AAU Nationals in Kingsport, Tennessee. This was an ACT preparation course. Our program will continue to offer assistance in preparing for the SAT and ACT as needed.

Coaching

It is our belief that one of the main reasons young athletes play AAU basketball is to be able to improve their skills.  The Houston Swoosh provides excellent coaching by using former college players, former college coaches and former NBA players to assist and run our practices.  Throughout the last couple of seasons we have consistently had college scouts compliment our team's game plan and style of play.  We allow our players to showcase their skills yet when necessary play excellent team basketball.  We run numerous zone and man type defenses and have instructed the players to implement many college level offenses and plays during the game when needed.

Accomplishments

The Houston Swoosh can boast of many Tournament Championships over the past several years.  We won the 2002 MAYB National Championships in Wichita, Kansas.  We placed Second in last summer's 2003 BCI National Championships held in Lubbock, Texas and placed 6th in the 2002 BCI National Championships held in Dallas, Texas including a victory over the previous year's Champion, Indiana Rim Rattlers.  We were also one of only two Houston teams to advance to the Gold Bracket at the 2003 AAU Nationals Championships held in Kingsport, Tennessee.  Last year's record was 68 - 20, with the majority of the loses from playing "up" in tournaments.  More importantly, we have maintained an excellent reputation for our style of play, sportsmanship and competitiveness.

National Recognition

The Houston Swoosh will participate in the most recognized tournaments offered.  The attached Tournament Schedule indicates our preliminary plans.  Where conflicts occur with All-Star Camps we may need to adjust.  Every effort will be made to participate in only those tournaments where college recruiters are present.  Note that we plan to have our players seen throughout the U.S.  In addition, we have already been in contact with major sponsors and contributors to the various All-Star camps.  Our deserving players will be offered the opportunity to participate at these camps.

Sponsorship

The Houston Swoosh, a non-profit organization is very fortunate to be in a position that allows it to act independently.  We have a budget that will allow the team to travel and play in numerous tournaments throughout the U.S.  By being independent we are able to play in Adidas, Nike, Reebok and other tournaments affiliated with sports companies.  The members of the Houston Swoosh fly to out of state tournaments, stay two to a room at quality hotels and have all meals and entertainment included.  Per discussions with members and coaches of the "Shoe Sponsored Teams", our players are treated royally.
